Disney fans rejoice! As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, the night of November 20th, 2022 brought us some shocking Disney news. We learned that former Disney CEO Bob Iger, who handed the CEO reigns to Bob Chapek in February 2020 just before the country shut down due to the pandemic, had been reinvited and reinstated as CEO of The Walt Disney Company. Bob Chapek has been an unpopular CEO for Disney fans ever since the beginning. Prior to his CEO role, he was in charge of the Disney Parks and many fans felt he was doing a poor job in that position. But the man was making money for the company, and therefore Disney’s Board of Directors had confidence in Bob Chapek. But the last quarter for The Walt Disney Company was a bad one finding monetary losses in various departments. When monetary losses are seen by The Board, then some attention is finally paid. So, Bob Chapek was kicked to the curb and Bob Iger is back with a difficult job ahead of him. Iger needs to bring back the profits and do some serious damage control with the public, the press, the board, and beyond. It’s a difficult task and it will be fascinating to see it all unfold. This is certainly an unprecedented event for The Walt Disney Company, and frankly, it’s sending shockwaves through the entertainment industry. Although there’s lots of celebrating to be had at the moment, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not Bob Iger can course correct over the next two years as he also seeks out his successor, hopefully for the last time.
